I stayed at KEX Hostel for 7 days, and my experience was fantastic. Pana (the Greek guy) was the first person to greet me upon my arrival, and his friendliness and professionalism stood out from the start. He provided all the essential information about Reykjavik and didn’t hesitate to recommend things to do in Iceland. Since I arrived on Christmas Eve, Pana quickly advised me to visit the nearest supermarket to buy food for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, as many restaurants would be closed. He even suggested alternative supermarkets in case the closest one closed early. His thoughtfulness and care were truly impressive. Throughout my stay, Pana consistently demonstrated exceptional service. I saw him helping a guest who was stranded when a tour bus failed to pick them up—he contacted the travel agency and rearranged the trip without hesitation. At the end of my stay, when my luggage broke just before heading to the airport, Pana came up with a quick solution. He suggested wrapping the luggage with duct tape, fetched some from the equipment room, and even ran to another staff member to find a stronger tape to ensure my luggage stayed secure during the flight. Thanks to him, my luggage arrived in London without any issues. It’s clear that Pana takes his job seriously and goes above and beyond to provide the best service to his guests. As for KEX Hostel itself, it’s an amazing place to stay. The hostel is clean, and I noticed the staff consistently maintaining cleanliness throughout the day. I highly recommend KEX Hostel to anyone visiting Reykjavik—it’s not just the excellent facilities but also the incredible staff like Pana that make it a memorable experience.

I loved that they upgraded me from a dorm to a double room. I am not their usual demographic as I am a solo female traveller aged 75. As they were doing massive renovations on the 2 bottom floors, the bar and garden on the ground floor were not operating so that suited me very well. It was very peaceful which I imagine will not be the case once the renovations are completed. The front rooms all have wonderful water views. The whole hostel, including the bedrooms, were wonderfully decorated with antiques and interesting bric a brac and there was a variety of lounge areas to hang out. The kitchens, one on each floor, were fully equipped with everything you might need. The other outstanding thing was that there were many toilets and bathrooms, meaning that you never needed to queue for a toilet. This place was exceptional! I imagine if I was 50 years younger, I would love it once the bar etc are open again.

+ I am sad I only stayed here for one night because I thought I wouldn't like staying in a hostel - but this place was actually the most comfy and interesting place out of 3 I stayed in Reykjavik. + The ONLY place I stayed with FIRM mattress which really helped me sleep well + The VIbe at this hostel is excellent thanks to the interesting unique decor that seems to be repruposed retro gaming objects and other retro furnishings very artfully put together + There are many bathrooms all of which were clean and beautifully designed + The staff were helpful and pleasant + The bar lounge area was really chill vibe and good drinks collection + Location easy to explore Reykjavik

Over all its a the best place in Reykjavik in water front. I have travelled 123 countries and in by next week completing 124.

The 42-bed room was much better than it sounds. It is divided into sections by walls, so it doesn't feel like cramped. The hostel is located in downtown, easy to walk everywhere, the staff is very friendly and helpful, they are working together with day tour companies, so they pick you up with a bus directly in front of the hostel. Breakfast is top quality, rich selection of sweet and savory options. The kitchen is open also later, you can eat lunch and dinner in the hostel. Super fast Wifi, you can work from there.
